Presenting Community:

Elderberry is a rural senior cohousing community, 20 minutes north of Durham, NC, halfway between the ocean and the mountains. We have been enjoying life here for ten years, ever since we built our Common House. We have 18 homes, ranging from a tiny house to 1200 square feet, all in energy-efficient duplexes and quadruplexes, designed to be accessible. Our 23 residents (singles and couples ) own their homes and share responsibility for our 10 acres, Common House and outbuildings. We use consensus to govern ourselves and concentrate on developing a cooperative culture. We love to have fun and party, but we also work on maintaining our buildings and landscaping as well as being involved in the committees and groups that make our community strong. Our passions include organic gardening, hiking, pets and enjoying the natural and urban attractions nearby. We love rural living and are surrounded by 100+ acres of trails that our neighbors at Potluck Community Farm have shared with us.
