Designing Communities for Inclusivity

Join author and coach, Crystal Farmer, for a 2-part intensive training on how to build diversity and inclusion into your intentional community.

Are you a community leader or committee member interested in helping your community do The Work for diversity and inclusion? Join this two-part training for strategies and practical tools to help your community recruit people from different backgrounds, write inclusive policies, and respond to challenging situations related to diversity.

Key outcomes of this training:

  • Design your recruiting and orientation materials to be inclusive and welcoming
  • Write inclusive policies that are flexible and responsive
  • Plan for success by identifying your “tokens” and “resistors”
  • Learn strategies to resolve conflicts without alienating members
  • Create safe spaces for marginalized people
  • Facilitate trainings and discussions with an eye for inclusion and equity
  • Participate in a “Train the Trainer” for a basic diversity training

“Crystal is competent and direct at addressing what I think are the most important considerations for affordable and inclusive intentional living spaces going forward. The middle-class white “normative” home ownership model of cohousing is wonderful for those already privileged in our culture’s financial systems to help them create less isolation and a sense of community – I’m thrilled it is an option for them. But it does NOT represent the equitable and progressive housing needs of the future if we are to thrive as a diverse collective…. Crystal really ignited more pragmatic hope and commitment in me and that is PRICELESS!”

Loved by Community Builders

Teri’s presence, warmth, poise, experience and clarity. I quickly felt at ease and confident that she knew what she was talking about, and could share the material effectively, while also managing the group format. – Jeffrey B

What a beautiful gift to our intentional community builders and leaders! FIC’s programs provide a way for thinking and concerned people to collaborate for solutions to our multitude of global crises. Thank you FIC!Terri Garcia

I am constantly impressed by the down-to-earth practicality of the FIC workshops combined with the philosophical questions that are so vital for us to explore. I’m grateful for the excellent planning and delivery of the workshops by skilled and inclusive presenters, who create a space that is both welcoming and invites participants to challenge existing ideas and world views. Well done and thank you FIC.Claire Ogden
