Space for Everyone at the Table | Making Meetings Accessible
Join author and coach, Crystal Farmer, for a FREE 1-hour interactive webinar on how your community can enhance your meetings to be more inclusive and accessible.
Meetings are an essential part of community building, and in order to be inclusive, meetings should help people feel comfortable and included. Meeting accessibility goes beyond ADA — it involves thinking about culture, language, and even time of day. Join this workshop for practical advice on how to set up meetings so that all types of people can participate.
During this session you will learn:
- How to find a physical meeting location that is accessible in terms of disability as well as socioeconomic status and race.
- How to establish norms such as the use of pronouns, nonverbal signals like twinkle fingers, and nonviolent communication.
- How to welcome newcomers without overwhelming them.
- How to use free resources to caption or transcribe Zoom calls.
- How to prepare for communication differences over Zoom, especially for disabled people.
- How to recognize and accommodate cultural differences such as being on time, showing emotion, and interrupting.
- How to schedule meetings for shift workers, parents, and other people with limited free time.
If you are ready to dig deeper into fostering an inclusive community, this session is also a great introduction to Crystal’s 5-week Fundamentals of Anti-Oppression in Community course.

Teri’s presence, warmth, poise, experience and clarity. I quickly felt at ease and confident that she knew what she was talking about, and could share the material effectively, while also managing the group format. – Jeffrey B

I am constantly impressed by the down-to-earth practicality of the FIC workshops combined with the philosophical questions that are so vital for us to explore. I’m grateful for the excellent planning and delivery of the workshops by skilled and inclusive presenters, who create a space that is both welcoming and invites participants to challenge existing ideas and world views. Well done and thank you FIC. – Claire Ogden
