Developing Community in Vermont We are developing a small spiritually-oriented intentional community (up to 10 people) as a housing cooperative on an existing homestead farm on eight beautiful acres in southern Vermont. Land is a mix of open area and woods, large vegetable and flower gardens, fruits and berries, and a friendly flock of hens. At the present time (July 2024), the dwellings we have consist of a large main house, apartment, and finished barn. 4 people are living here. Also, we have rustic spaces for personal retreats, including a treehouse, and space for portable living structures. We want to build additional multi-unit housing as soon as possible (pending local zoning approval). We are seeking co-owner members who have the time, energy, interest, access to financial resources and who are open to a long-term commitment (after a “getting-to-know-you” period) which includes sharing responsibilities and management. Can you see making Happy Harvest Homestead your home?

Next Steps:

  • In-person and online weekend gathering in late August of this year
  • Opportunity to rent the main house (2200 sq ft, 1-2 bedrooms, 2 baths) for $1500-2000 / month, starting in November, with an option to buy.

We envision this cooperative community as open to people of all spiritual paths, who are focused on self-awareness and spiritual development, and preferably who have skills and experience in gardening, land maintenance, and sustainable living, or at least are creative doers with a passion for learning and contributing. Healthy whole food-based diet encouraged. Small entrepreneurial businesses welcome. Possibility of creating a spiritual retreat center. Seeking kind, compassionate, caring, and emotionally mature people of integrity who are good at communicating, resolving conflict peacefully, and working together. Friendly pets are welcome.

If this appeals to you contact Gary at gshapcrc@sover.net for more information. I have to send the photos separately, in another email.

Thanks, Gary Shapiro
