Are you considering intentional community living? Want to live in the country, but be close to town? Please take a look at the ownership potential available at Zephyr Creek Crossing – a successful, intentional community in highly desirable, affordable Kentucky offered for $399,900.
ZCC consists of an owner’s unit (1250 sq ft) and three private one bedroom plus bath apartments on approximately 3 acres of wooded hillside, located about 40 miles south of Lexington KY in the heart of the Bluegrass. Easy access to I-75, its half way between Berea (home of Berea College, Sustainable Berea, the Ecovillage and Berea Urban Farm and AKA the Arts and Craft Capital of Kentucky) and Richmond – home of E.K.U. Check out the neighborhood at www.visitberea.com and Berea College – at www.berea.edu/the-great-commitments.
Zephyr Creek Crossing started in 2008. Residents at ZCC are picked for their interest in intentional living and share in our view of neighborliness, ecology and country living. Our units are highly prized and we are presently fully occupied because we offer reasonably priced accommodations in a private country setting, a place to put our hands in the dirt (organic gardening), plus space to work on crafts plus have social interaction in community, as desired. We have a residency interview process for potential residents, plus we legally function under a basic rental agreement (We use as much consensus as possible in decision making.) In addition to paying market rent, which covers most property expenses, our residents agree to contribute four hours of work per month to the community.
Building #1 consists of two separate apartments including:
Zephyr Cabin – The owner’s unit is a 2 BR + 1 bath, 1264 sq ft, Kentucky cabin style with a covered front porch overlooking a rock lined creek and a back concrete patio. Featuring an open floor plan, with eat-in country kitchen big enough to accommodate community meals, which opens to a study/TV/living area with hardwood oak floors. A spacious master bedroom with bath is on this floor. Upstairs is an open balcony overlooking the living area and is used as the Community Library. A second bedroom upstairs includes a Jacuzzi and under eaves storage. Entry to Zephyr Cabin, parking areas, deck and laundry room are all accessible with no stairs.
Downstairs is Creekside Apartment –This 1 BR and bath, private retreat is a 912 sq ft, walk-out finished basement apartment with tiled floors and a full kitchen. Mostly furnished, the floor plan is divided into a great room, kitchen, bedroom and bath. Because it is partially below ground, it is our designated tornado shelter for the community.
Building #2 – Originally began as a garage, we revised our plans and turned it into a multi-purpose building, adding two apartments, shared laundry, half bath and craft/hobby room. Some finish work still in process.
Upstairs – Artisan Cabin – A one BR + bath, approx. 700 sq ft cabin, equipped with an efficient wood stove plus moveable heat pump for cozy winters in front of the fire. It contains a combined kitchen/living room with hardwood floors and upgraded cabinetry. A sunroom with a sliding glass door, opens to the private deck which overlooks hillside, a beautiful morning coffee spot. Bedroom space could also be used as an office. Some furnishings.
The Backwoods Cabin is a new efficiency with a bedroom, shower room, and living/dining space – small but comfortable. Could also be used as an office or business space. It features hand stained oak floors and trim, decorator tiled shower and built in handcrafted cabinet/bar masterpiece. A partially completed deck just needs final boards.
Shared Laundry Room & Half Bath – Includes stacked Whirlpool washer and dryer, freezer, storage racks and half bath.
Hobby/Craft Room & Storage – Recently plumbed with propane heat, it is shared space by the community for various projects, shared tool storage, food preparation and storage. (Plans to replace garage door with English country doors.)
