If you are interested in joining our community, your timing is good as Unit # 7 is for sale.  Unit #7 is an upstairs unit of approximately 1,170 square feet with two bedrooms, one bath, large windows, high ceiling with skylights, hardwood and tile floors, two lofts, and a cozy fireplace.

The friendly diverse community consists of twelve homes with a large community room, workshop / bike storage room, hot tub, patio with picnic table and BBQ grill, laundry room, and other amenities. At last count there are 15 adults (including four retired people, three of whom are original founders) Two teens & one pre-teen.  The development is located on the Doyle Street Greenway Bike Route, a hip neighborhood close to restaurants, shopping, parks, library, schools, public transit, Pixar, Berkeley Bowl West, Amtrak, medical offices and the Emeryville Marina.  Emeryville is located between Berkeley and Oakland on the San Francisco Bay and is a mixture of residential housing, biotech industry and shopping.

Doyle Street Cohousing was built in 1992, the second cohousing development built in the United States, and was designed by (and lived in) by the two founders of the American Cohousing movement.  It functions as a village to foster connection.  Residents participate in the life of the community through cooking, dining, maintaining the facility, and playing together.  Each unit has all the expected private amenities including kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedrooms.  In addition, optional community dinner occurred three nights a week in the common house prior to the pandemic; currently we have resumed meals once a week outdoors in the courtyard.  We also continue our social connections by having online video hangouts and physically but not socially distant gatherings in our outdoor spaces.  We also help one another with shopping trips and looking after one another.
