The Personnel Coordinator at Breitenbush is a key position that manages all aspects of human resources for the cooperative. This a full time, year round position.

Summary of Major Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Breitenbush Cooperative’s hiring processes including:
    • Recruitment
    • Job postings
    • Onboarding of new staff
  • Oversee the Breitenbush Cooperative’s offboarding of departing staff
  • Ensure that personnel practices align with our Handbook of Agreements (HOA) and applicable State and Federal regulations
  • Keep abreast of labor law and labor law changes
    • Consult with resources (legal, SHRM, external, etc.) for HR issues for which you are uncertain of implications
    • Self-schedule and attend ongoing training opportunities for HR (BOLI, EEOC, SHRM, etc.)
  • Work with the Business Director (BD) to support teams in following legal practices for:
    • Hiring
    • Evaluations
    • Job performance issues
    • Leaves
    • Accidents
    • Benefits
    • Conflict resolution
    • Terminations
    • Other employment activities
  • Oversee the administration of Breitenbush benefits, unemployment and workers compensation programs
  • Oversee FMLA, OFLA, and Paid Leave Oregon programs
  • Organize annual Open Enrollment in April along with the administration of Breitenbush medical, dental, and life insurance benefits
  • Work with the BD to respond to complaints and grievances; follow up with investigations and documentation as needed
  • Coordinate housing for staff, working with the Community Council, and following Breitenbush policies
  • Maintain comprehensive and detailed records of employment for all employees
  • Participate in the Incident Management Team, as needed
  • Attend:
    • Admin Team Meetings
    • Safety Committee Team Meetings
    • Team Coordinator Meetings
  • Oversee the Employee Evaluation process:
    • Distribute evaluation forms
    • Follow through to ensure employee feedback is given
    • Help to craft Performance Improvement Plans, if/as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Prior management, business administration, or similar experience
  • Ability to maintain a stationary position for long periods of time working on a computer
  • Willingness to work onsite and be available by phone and radio 40 hours/week and for occasional off-hours emergencies

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • 2+ years experience in the field of human resources and/or a Bachelor’s degree in HR
  • Ability to gain a mastery level understanding of the Breitenbush Handbook of Agreements (HOA) and operating rules of the co-op
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of people and temperaments
  • Excellent communication skills; friendly, patient and accessible to answer requests and questions, while also diplomatically holding boundaries set by Breitenbush policies and legal standards
  • Strong computer skills, ideally with experience using the following platforms:
    • Google Suite
    • Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Organizational agility and accuracy with details
  • Ability to manage several projects concurrently
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and the highest level of ethical behavior in the midst of a community living setting where you know and interact with employees professionally as well as socially
  • Proficient regarding relevant state and federal laws and their governing jurisdictions, including but not limited to:
    • Oregon state employment laws:  Bureau of Labor & Industries (BOLI)
    • Federal employment laws:  Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)
    • National Labor Relations Act:  National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)
