Join long-term communitarian and movement builder Sky Blue for an overview of different types of economic models for intentional communities and how they apply to your group.
About the event
The root of economy, eco, comes from the Greek word for home. Economics is about how we get our basic needs met, how we generate & distribute resources, and the relationships & systems involved. It’s about how we make & spend money, how we organize & carry out labor, and how we relate to wealth & ownership. It’s about how we generate the capacity to do all the things we want to do to manifest the vision of our communities. And it’s about how the internal economy of our communities interacts with economic systems beyond our community.
During Economic Models for Intentional Communities, we’ll dive into a variety of topics related to economics of Intentional Communities including:
- A reconceptualization of what economics mean, particularly in the context of Intentional Communities
- How financial concepts relate to ICs, and practices for Cooperative Financial Management
- Different financial models and labor systems available to ICs, and how they relate to other key aspects such as Purpose, Governance, and Culture
We’ll focus on how these different elements interact with each other and how to create mutually supportive synergy between them.
In this workshop, you’ll gain:
- A deeper understanding of what economics are and how it applies to your group
- More knowledge on models and best practices
- A greater sense of clarity and possibility for how your group can align your economic system with your vision & culture
